Who IS this guy??

I have been taking pictures since I was a kid.  I got a cheap early model Polaroid camera when I was about 8 years old.  My images were awful and my skills were even worse.  But the hobby took hold.

In junior high I built a darkroom in my dad's garage and developed my own black and white photos. I did photography for my school newspapers and annuals.  I in college I even shot weddings to help pay the bills and college tuition (I HATED IT!).   During the early days of my veterinary career and raising young kids,  photography became too expensive.  Before digital, every time I clicked the camera shutter it would cost thirty three cents. Not affordable.

Then came middle age and digital cameras.  Dangerous.  Now I could incorporate photography with my interest in computers. As my skills and equipment stock improved , my fascenation and love for wildlife and wildlife photography grew. Out of control. I have been blessed to have been to sites all around the world.  Now I could take photographs and play with them on my computer. I would  make some prints and show them to friends and bring them to work. After sharing them with the small number of people, I gave most away but many photos would then end up in a folder to be forgotten. So what is the point of creating what I think are some pretty cool photos if nobody sees them?

That is why I created this blog. By no way am I suggesting that I am a top tier photographer. This is just a way to share some photos that I particularly enjoy.

Yours Truly-1Yours Truly-1

For 35 years I owned a  companion animal animal veterinary hospital in a suburb of Seattle. I grew up in the same area – only leaving long enough to “camp out” in eastern Washington at Washington State University. I earned a Bachelors Degree in Microbiology and Public Health, Bachelors Degree in Veterinary Science, Degree as Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and a Masters Degree in Clinical Virology and Immunology . My wife of 42 years is a teacher and completed her Ph.D at the University of Washington (ok, she is not a Coug but what am I to do.....?) and our daughter completed  her Ph.D at the University of Illinois studying French Linguistics and teaches French and Spanish.   Our son works in computer programing aided drafting.

In the winter of 2019 I sold my veterinary practice.  After 50 years in the world of veterinary medicine I was burned out.  The ever increasing entitlement issues by pet owners and cruelty  of social media did me in.    Unfortunately,  the cost of medical insurance had doubled since we did the retirement planning and I search for alternatives.   So now I drive a school bus.  Really!   This school year I only drive as a substitute   Really.

I continue because of the wonderful people that I work with.  Driving a forty foot bus is kinda fun.  Too bad there have to be students.  My biggest frustration are elementary  students. They are feral.  Unable to behave and understand even the most simple  instructions and safety rules.  And best of all,  when I'm done.  I'm done.  I do horribly miss the animals and the medicine,  but that's about all I miss!

A perfect weekend outing is to take the Harley on a country ride with family and friends, the camera gear tucked in the saddle bags and the tripod strapped to the seatback. I love wildlife, airplanes, aviation, old cars old, old barns, ghost towns, the night sky and cool landscapes.

My photos ARE available to buy!  And I can proudly say that I have sold many.  (Not enough to retire,  but there is always hope.....).  I can print various sizes from 8 1/2 x 11,  up to 17 x 22 inches.  All photos are printed on Epson professional paper.  Larger sizes or printing onto canvas can be ordered from an outside lab.  For pricing,  just send me an email.
